What is YAGS:

YAGS is a youth-led advisory group, made up of 20 passionate young people, dedicated to shaping the future of the Y Springfield Central Community Centre and beyond.

What we do:

  • Shape the vision of the Y Springfield Central Community Centre
  • Plan and run youth-focused events and programs (school holiday activities, youth drop-ins, and more)
  • Give young people a voice in local projects and community initiatives
  • Help design the new multi-purpose youth space at the Y
  • Create and launch the annual Youth Survey of Greater Springfield
  • Present our ideas to elected representatives and community leaders

What's Expected?

To be a YAGS member, you’ll:
  • Attend monthly meetings (minimum 75% attendance)
  • Help co-facilitate school holiday programs
  • Represent YAGS at community events and initiatives
  • Be part of working groups and sub-committees when needed

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What happens if I am unable to attend a meeting?

    YAGS members are required to have a 75% minimum meeting attendance in order to maintain membership with the program.  However, we understand life happens!  The Y remains committed to proactively working alongside all members to implement flexible arrangements, if and where required.
  • Where do meetings take place?

    In the beginning, meetings will be hosted at the Y Springfield Central Community Centre.  In the future, there may be scope to rotate meeting locations to other local facilities i.e. youth services, public spaces, community facilities.  Any future decisions about meeting locations will be determined by YAGS members.
  • Will this impact my studies?

    We understand that our members will have other commitments, whether it be studies and/or work. The Y remains committed to proactively working alongside all members to implement flexible arrangements, if and where required. 
  • If I already attend programs and services at the Y Springfield Central Community Centre, can I join YAGS?

    Yes, absolutely!
  • Do I need references to join YAGS?

    References are not required as part of the initial application process.  However, once YAGS members have been selected and notified, references will be requested from YAGS members in accordance with YMCA Queensland Volunteer On-Boarding Requirements.

Who can apply?

  • Aged 16-25 at the time of application
  • Live in Greater Springfield (Springfield, Springfield Central, Springfield Lakes, Spring Mountain, Augustine Heights, Brookwater, Camira, Greenbank, or within 5km of the Community Centre)
  • Hold (or be willing to obtain) a Blue Card (if 18 or older)

YMCA Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) provides engaging before school care, after school care, and vacation care for children up to 12 years old.

At Y OSHC, our experience in working with children through various stages means we're well-equipped to support your child through this important transition and beyond. We partner closely with parents, schools, and the community to create fun, engaging programs that make this change easier and help children thrive in a caring and supportive environment.

Healthy starts for healthy futures.

At Y Queensland, we have a mission to reduce the number of school students disadvantaged by hunger and poor nutrition. Our YMCA Schools’ Breakfast Program provides over 101,000+ children on any one day with a healthy breakfast across 400+ schools in Queensland. The program provides food, equipment and support to schools free of charge, so that schools are able to provide free breakfast to all children.

Welcome to Ipswich Thriving Seniors, a vibrant program dedicated to helping older adults aged 60 and over, along with First Nations peoples aged 50 and over, thrive in their communities.

Our mission is to empower older Queenslanders to feel more connected, supported, and actively engaged.

Based in Springfield Lakes and reaching across Ipswich, we offer flexible programs, events, and services that celebrate seniors and build age-friendly communities. Our goal is to create age-friendly environments where seniors feel valued, celebrated and connected to their communities.
