National Volunteer Week is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering. It's a time to recognise the generous contributions of volunteers and the powerful impact they have in creating strong, connected communities.
This year’s theme, “Connecting Communities,” highlights the vital role volunteers play in strengthening relationships, enriching lives, and fostering meaningful community engagement — something we strive to do every day at Y Queensland through our programs and initiatives.
Did You Know?
We’re proud to have more than 170 incredible volunteers across Y Queensland — each bringing their passion, time, and heart to help others. From early mornings at our school breakfast programs to friendly faces in our Op Shops, our volunteers are helping to build healthy, connected, and thriving communities.
To celebrate National Volunteer Week, we reached out to our volunteers to hear their stories — why they started volunteering, how long they’ve been part of the Y, what they love about it, and the messages they want to share with others who are thinking about getting involved and giving back to the community.
Watch Their Stories
Our volunteers come from across the many services that make up Y Queensland, and each story is as unique and inspiring as the people who tell it.
- From young people at YMCA Queensland Youth Parliament leading with purpose and passion
- To seniors lending their time and talents at Y Op Shops, creating warm and welcoming spaces for customers
- To dedicated individuals supporting our community centres, delivering classes, programs, and social connection
- And volunteers at Y Schools Queensland, making sure students feel supported, seen, and valued
Thank You, Volunteers
Your time, energy and dedication are truly invaluable. Every day, you help us deliver programs and services that uplift individuals, strengthen families, and bring communities together. Whether you’re lending a hand at an event, supporting our centres, mentoring young people, helping customers at our Op Shops, or simply offering a smile – your impact is felt far and wide. Thank you for helping us build healthy, connected and thriving communities.
