General Information

The Y Springfield Central Community Centre (formerly Springfield Central Sport and Community Hall) delivers a suite of holistic programs for young people, families and the local community.

Situated in a dynamic community precinct between Springfield Central State High School and the Springfield Central Sports Complex, the Community Centre is perfect for hosting youth and community programs, indoor sporting activities, meetings, workshops and seminars, community events, place based service provision, local businesses, and local meetups.

the Y Springfield Central hosts more than 40 community users who utilise the space each month. This includes everything from youth and community programs through to sporting activities, social groups, youth and community services offering place-based service provision, educational programs, allied health services, church groups, and local businesses.

In terms of sporting and recreational activities, the centre hosts various programs including basketball, volleyball, table tennis and badminton within the Sports Hall. Not to mention various multiple martial arts disciplines such as taekwondo, judo, karate and gumdo (swords), and various dance and active programs.

For those interested in training and other learning opportunities, the centre hosts a variety of programs in partnership with training providers and RTO’s including First Aid and CPR, Youth Mental Health First Aid, Psychological First Aid, Beginner Auslan Classes, language classes, and more.

If you are seeking local allied health services, the community centre hosts a variety of local services in partnership with local providers including psychology, speech therapy, education support, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, plus a midwife program.

From a YMCA perspective, the centre is host to a weekly YMCA Schools’ Breakfast Program (hosted Monday to Friday between 8.15am and 8.45am). The Y also facilitates a range of other programs including the Youth Advisory Greater Springfield (YAGS), school holiday programs, community events, and youth drop-in sessions.

Youth Advisory of Greater Springfield (YAGS)

Based at the Y Springfield Central Community Centre, the Youth Advisory Greater Springfield (YAGS) is a youth advisory group comprised of 20 young people aged 16 to 25 years of age based in Greater Springfield.
The goal of Youth Advisory Greater Springfield (YAGS) is to empower young people aged 16 to 25 in the Greater Springfield region by providing them with a platform to actively shape their community, contribute to local initiatives, and develop professional skills.

Role of Youth Advisory Greater Springfield (YAGS)

  • Shape the vision of the Y Springfield Central Community centre
  • Design and implement initiatives (by young people, for young people) such as school holiday activities, youth-drop in programs
  • Provide youth input on various youth and community initiatives across Greater Springfield and the City of Ipswich
  • Contribute to the physical and aesthetic design of the Y Springfield Central Community Centre and its various spaces
  • Develop, launch and champion the annual ‘Youth Survey of Greater Springfield’

Become A Volunteer


The YMCA Springfield Central Community Centre offers a variety of activities for people from the Greater Springfield area and beyond. One of the great ways to get connected, participate in community events and to contribute is to volunteer!

After a short induction and organising a volunteers blue card, we will help find a role and a commitment level that is right for you. Some of our volunteer roles include:
