Y Schools Queensland: Beyond the Classroom Report
Y Schools Queensland is proud to share Beyond the Classroom: Partnering with Families to Support Student Wellbeing and Success, a new report that captures the voices of parents and carers across our school communities.
Based on the 2025 Parent and Carer Survey, the report provides valuable insights into what is working well for young people at Y Schools Queensland, and where we can continue to grow. With 183 responses received, families shared honest feedback about wellbeing, learning, school culture, safety, and future pathways reinforcing the importance of strong partnerships between schools and families.
Below are some of the key themes and findings from the report.
Supporting Individual Needs Through a Holistic Approach
Families consistently highlighted Y Schools Queensland’s ability to meet students where they are. Smaller class sizes, personalised learning, and a holistic approach were identified as key strengths that set Y Schools Queensland apart from mainstream schooling.

An overwhelming 96% of caregivers said Y Schools Queensland is a better option than their young person’s previous school. Many families described Y Schools Queensland as a turning point, particularly for young people who had experienced school refusal, anxiety, or disengagement.
Wellbeing at the Centre of Learning
Student wellbeing remains a cornerstone of Y Schools Queensland. Almost every caregiver surveyed agreed that the school supports their young person’s wellbeing.

Smaller class sizes and one-on-one support were seen as critical in helping students feel safe, valued, and heard
While overall satisfaction is high, caregivers also identified opportunities to further strengthen behaviour management and staff consistency, feedback that will continue to inform ongoing improvement.
Strong Partnerships with Parents and Carers
The report reinforces the importance of collaboration between parents, carers and school staff. Caregivers reported high levels of trust, responsiveness, and approachability from Y Schools Queensland staff.

Individual Learning Plan (ILP) meetings, newsletters, and information events were identified as the most effective ways parents and carers stay informed and involved. Parents and Carers also shared ideas for future engagement, including family events, parent information sessions, and improved communication around assessments and pathways.
Pathways Beyond School
Preparing young people for life beyond school is a core focus at Y Schools Queensland. The report shows continued improvement in how students are supported to explore future education, training, and employment.
